LOS ANGELES, CA — The Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce hosted a reception for L.A. Cash for College scholarship winners. The scholarships were awarded to students who attended last fall’s L.A. Cash for College – College and Career Convention and/or a financial aid work shop, filed their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on time and enrolled in college.

L.A. Cash for College awarded 20 $1,000 scholarships over the two-day Convention and awarded an additional 10 $1,000 scholarships to workshop participants. This year, in partnership with Wells Fargo, an additional $25,000 in scholarships was awarded to workshop participants.

“We are incredibly grateful to Wells Fargo for giving us the ability to expand our reach even further. With their help, we have an even greater ability to ensure the underserved youth have access to the college dream,” said David Rattray, Executive Vice President, L.A. Area Chamber of Commerce. “Additionally, too many students are unaware that college can be both accessible and affordable.  L.A. Cash for College scholarships are used to motivate students to do something that will help them succeed and obtain even more money to help defray the cost of college.”

Held in October at Los Angeles Trade Technical College, the 16thAnnual L.A. Cash for College Convention gave students the opportunity to learn about financial aid, college life, career pathways and meet with college recruiters. Nearly 7,000 students and their families participated in the convention.

The L.A. Cash for College scholarships encourage college enrollment, do not displace local, state or federal financial aid and are awarded regardless of immigration status. The Scholarship Awards Reception is a chance to celebrate with the scholarship winners and their families, support them as they get ready to go to college, and encourage them to succeed.
