Resources & Activities for All Grade Levels
What to Do
First, plan to attend with family & friends. There is information and resources materials for all grade levels. When you get there, pick up the Family Night Guide. It will tell you:
•How to make the Early Commitment to College Pledge and become eligible for a $1,000 Scholarship
•Where everything is - a floor plan for all of the activities
•Times and room numbers for Financial Aid Presentation and AB 540 Information Sessions
•Times, subjects and rooms for College Life Workshops
•College resources
•A college preparation timeline
•A convention evaluation to give us feedback on how to make our event even better
Family Night at the Cash for College Convention offers a comprehensive set of resources for all stages of the college planning process, focusing on three important categories:
•Creating a College-Going Culture at Home and In the Classroom
•Planning to Pay for College
•College Access Regardless of Immigration Status [AB540]
Family Night offers a variety of activities organized into five main areas:
•Financial Planning Presentations:
45 minute PowerPoint explanation of financial planning resources and opportunities
•AB540 Information Sessions:
Immigration specialists describe pathways to college opportunities and answer individual questions on a one-to-one basis
•College Life Workshops:
Small group discussions on a variety of important topics like college savings plans, A-G college entry requirements, preparing your personal statement, scholarships, AB540 resources and much more
•Exhibit Hall:
College recruiters and career specialists are available to answer your questions and explain what classes are necessary to put you on the pathway to your dream college and career
Students in grades 6 through 11 who make the Early Commitment to College Pledge participate in a drawing for one of ten $1,000 scholarships awarded at the end of the Family Night evening. more
Family Night Registration & Orientation begins at 5:30pm. Volunteers will explain the evening’s activities in English and Spanish.
At 6:00pm, presentations and workshops will begin and Exhibitors will be available for information and questions in the Main Exhibit Hall.
At 8:30pm, all students and families will return to the Exhibit Hall where we will culminate the evening with the Russell J. Hammer Scholarship drawing. Ten students, 6th through 8th grade, will go home with a $1,000 scholarship!
