Ramon C. Cortines Scholarship

In recognition of Mr. Ramon Cortines’ service to the students of Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce and L.A. Cash for College have established the Ramon C. Cortines Scholarship Fund. Mr. Cortines has been a change agent in education for several decades, and has headed and reshaped the nation’s second largest school district on three separate occasions, each time putting the needs of students above all else.

In an effort to support and encourage future educational leaders, the Fund will award a scholarship of $500 to one graduating high school senior with a demonstrated interest in pursuing a career in public service or education.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible, a student must:

  1. Be an LAUSD high school senior in good academic standing;
  2. Have completed the 2017-2018 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or CA Dream Act application on or before March 2, 2018;
  3. Enroll at a college or university for the Fall 2018 term; and
  4. Demonstrate an interest in pursuing a career in education or public service.

The scholarship committee will review all completed applications and select one winner from the applicant pool. While participation in Cash for College events (College & Career Convention or Financial Aid Completion Workshops) is not mandatory, participation in Cash for College events will be weighted in the scoring process.
