9th Annual College & Career Convention
On Wednesday, December 8, and Thursday, December 9, 2010, from 8:30am until 1:00pm, LAUSD high school seniors will arrive at the L.A. Convention Center to attend Financial Aid Application Presentations, College Life Workshops and to meet college recruiters, career exhibitors and college preparation experts.
On Wednesday evening, December 8, Los Angeles area students and their families will attend Family Night, which focuses on a comprehensive set of resources for all stages of the college planning process.
Scholarships are available to high school seniors attending the daytime event. Additionally, students in grades 6 through 11 attending Family Night who make an early commitment to college are eligible to win one of ten $1,000 scholarships.
What to Expect
The Convention has three features:
Financial Aid Presentations:
45 minute PowerPoint explanation of financial aid resources and opportunities
College Life Workshops:
small group discussions on a variety of important topics like preparing your personal statement, scholarships, AB540 resources and much more
Exhibit Hall:
college recruiters are available to answer your questions and career exhibitors explain what classes are necessary to get your dream job
What to Do
First, plan to attend! If you are a high school senior, ask your school counselor if they would like free transportation to the daytime event. Or plan to come with family and friends to Family Night.
When you arrive, get the Convention Guide. It will show you:
•Where to go - a floor plan for the Convention Center that shows where the activities are located
•Financial Aid Presentation times and room numbers
•College Life Workshop subjects, times and room numbers
•How to apply for CFC Scholarships
•College resources
•A college preparation timeline
•A convention evaluation so you can tell us what you liked and how to improve the convention
